Volunteer

‘There is a ministry for everyone,
each according to your means.’
Mark 9.37

Volunteers are the heart of our parish and the thriving life of St Michael’s is a result of the many people who offer their time and skills to the glory of God and the service of the Church. To find out more about just some of the volunteering opportunities at St Michael’s please read on or get in touch.

Welcomers
We want everyone to feel welcome at Saint Michael’s and the Stewards greet regular, occasional and visiting worshippers as they arrive, as well as preparing for the service and making sure everything goes smoothly throughout. The  Baptism Welcomers team are there for those who are preparing to have a child christened at St Michael’s. They act as a point of contact, answer any questions, meet the family, and introduce them to other people at church.

Liturgy
Liturgy means ‘work of the people’ and services couldn’t take place without the large number of people from all backgrounds who help out in various ways. From readers who read the bible readings, to intercessors who lead the prayers, eucharistic ministers who share the chalice at Mass, to servers who assist with worship.

Music
Music has a special place in the worship at St Michael’s, ranging from those who sing in the Choir, to organists, pianists and other musicians who contribute to services in various ways. For more information see the Music pages of the website or get in touch with the Director of Music.

Hospitality
The sharing of food and drink is at the heart of the Gospel, and our Sunday Morning catering team enable our fellowship by preparing refreshments after the 10am Sung Mass. A larger catering team prepare refreshments for other special events such as parish lunches, drinks receptions and garden parties.

Upkeep
St Michael’s is a beautiful and well-maintained building whose appearance and care is enhanced by the cleaning and flower team who ensure that this holy place always speaks of the presence of God to all who enter it.

Events
Each year, St Michael’s brings the church and wider parish community together to celebrate through various events, some of which have an important role in raising funds for ministry and are organised by an events team. If you have a background in event organisation, finance or administration do consider volunteering for to help out.

Pastoral
The Church shows the love of God through pastoral care to people in the parish and church members far and wide. Many individuals support this by helping to deliver information leaflets, visiting or calling the sick and housebound, and keeping in touch with people who need support. Speak to the clergy if this is an area where you would like to volunteer.

Children’s Team
Jesus put a high priority on welcoming children and the Children’s Team, led by Gemma Curran, Children’s Ministry Leader, organises and supports all the events and services for children, families and young people at St Michael’s.

There are many others that people can support St Michael’s by using their own skills. If you’d like to talk about how you can volunteer, please get in touch
